Email Marketing 101: The Thank You Page

I thought it would be a good idea to go over some of the basics when setting up your first email list. There is one feature that is rarely used by the masses but savvy marketers have been leveraging it for years now with great results. And that is…The thank you page!

What is the thank you page?

Remember when you first signed up to a new mailing list and filled out your information?

You pressed the subscribe button and got taken to a page that said either thanks for signing up or look for the email in your inbox to confirm the subscription.

That’s a thank page and that’s prime real estate!

Your new subscriber’s attention is at the maximum it will ever be so now is the time to make a lasting impressions. This is where you can show them;

– An offer exclusive to new subscribers
– A video welcoming them to your list
– A downloadable bonus

Use your imagination and you will see, their attention is at the highest it will ever be when you get them to confirm so USE this time to make an impact.

I love using these pages to help indoctrinate and welcome them to my lists.

For example, I could send them to a page where I host a short video clip, letting them know they are valued as a new subscriber and what they can expect in the emails that follow. Remember, list building is all about building long term relationships and things like this help you stick out from the noise.

There is so much you can do and accomplish by using that high valuable real estate in your list building endeavours. Let’s show you how to set up a unique thank you page for your lists;

Step 1 – Simply log into your Rocket Responder account and click on ‘Forms’. You can find it on the left menu bar.

Step 2 – Next you want to click on the big green button under all that code that reads ‘Design a new form’

Step 3 – This opens up your customizable form generator. You can play around with the design and entire feel of your subscriber forms here but we’re going to skip this and look at the ‘Options’ menu on the top left and click that.

Step 4 – Now we have two options. A thank you page box and a confirmed page box. You can use both of these spaces to put your thank you page in. Here’s a strategy I would use…On the first thank you page box, put a page in there with a video of you thanking them for signing up. Indoctrinate them a bit to what they can expect but also let them know to white list your emails, and start the lines of communication. Engage with them! But also, tell them to pay attention for a ‘bonus’ that they will receive once they confirm their email with you….

That then moves you to the ‘confirmed page’ where you can place your bonuses, offers or whatever you wish to give them extra value for signing up to your list.

email marketing

The best part about this is that very few email marketers use this to start the relationship. They are too busy trying to pitch someone the moment they get on their list. Use this time to get them to know the real you and what you are offering and then you will have a customer for life.

Your Quick Cheat Sheet On How To White List Emails

Getting through spam filters is tough these days. And rightfully so, the amount of unwanted emails that flood into your customers inbox is overwhelming to say the least. However what happens when you actually want to receive the emails but your email provider and host filters them into the spam folder?

Not to worry, here is a quick ‘cheat sheet’ on how to white list your emails and make sure you get them delivered to your inbox!

Step 1 – Make sure you add the email address you are expecting to receive the emails from, to your list of contacts. This helps your provider know that these are emails that actually matter to you. This is more likely then not, the most important step in the process.

Step 2 – If the email you wanted ended up in spam, be sure to mark it as ‘Not Spam’. Again, we are working with our email host to let them know what we consider spam and what we consider legitimate emails.

Step 3 – You can also create filters of your own to help guide the emails coming in to whatever folder you would like. Let’s say for example you would like to receive email updates from Rocket Responder. Here’s the step by step process on how to do that, we will be using an example from one of the more popular email providers in the world (Gmail) but steps will be almost identical for other providers;

1. Find the Settings tab on the top of your Gmail account.

2. Click on Filters and then Create New Filter – You can name the Filter whatever you wish to help manage your emails.

3. Enter the domain name of the email you want to whitelist in the From field (Ex. rocketresponder.com)

4. And then click Create filter with this search

5. In the box headed When a message arrives that matches this search select Never send it to spam

6. And then….We’re done after you click ‘Create Filter

That’s it!

When you get into the habit of doing this for all emails you WANT to receive you actually help email senders get better sender scores. This tells the providers that what you are receiving in legit email and that you not only opted into receiving the emails but you actually WANT them as well.

Follow these steps to white list the emails you receive and email marketing continues to be the highest converting form of communication online!

subject lines

5 Tips For Writing Better Subject Lines That Gets Your Emails Opened

One of the most important parts of crafting a great email is having subject lines that grabs attention. Not only that, but your headline wants to not only get the readers attention, but entice them to open your email.

subject lines

Thinking about it…As much as we’d love to think our emails are so important that all our readers will stop dead in their tracks to read what we have to say, that just simply isn’t the case.

On average a person will get almost 90 emails a day.

90.

That’s a whole lot of noise for them to get through and what makes your message so important that they will give it any more than a glance?

The Subject Lines!

Your subject lines are like a Swiss army knife. It’s written to do many things, but the end goal is always…Getting your email opened.

Your subject lines can use any or all of these practices to get better open rates:

1. Create Curiosity – Don’t give away the farm when it comes to crafting your headline. Entice people to open and write something that makes them WANT to know what the answer will be. Nothing drives open rates more than curiosity.

2. Frame A Problem – This is a great technique for building rapport with your reader. If they feel like you understand their concerns, the headline can show them that you may have the perfect solution to their problem. Using headlines to frame a problem will get higher click through rates, as long as you are in tune with what your audience is experiencing.

3. Be Short & Sweet – You do not need to write War & Peace for your subject lines. Keep them short and remember to respect your readers time. If the message is clear, you will get higher open rates. Simplicity is key!

4. Use Numbers & Lists – This technique works for not only email subject lines but for blogs posts as well. Use things like “Discover 5 Tricks From Dog Training Experts That Stop Fido From Barking”, or “Are You Using These 3 Must Have Tools For New Online Businesses?” Those two short examples are combining multiple practices into one, but they all use numbers and top lists to grab attention and get opens!

5. Don’t Be Afraid Of A Little Shock & Awe – Remember, people are getting on average of about 90 emails a day. How will you stick out? By using a little bit of shock and awe, might be exactly what the doctor ordered. You don’t need to make bold claims or false statements, but this technique really works when you even add a touch of humor in the subject line. Be creative and see what works!

These are just 5 quick techniques that are proven to get better results from your email marketing. There are dozens more! Get creative and just remember…There is a lot of noise out there! As long as the body of your email provides value to your subscribers, you can have fun with your headline to get more action.

When to resend an email

When To Resend An Email To Boost Your Open Rates

Email marketing works best when you are in tune with your subscriber list to the extent that you are providing the sort of content they want to receive.

This results in higher open and click-through rates and maximizes the chances of getting your subscribers to go on and take the action you want them to take, such as buying goods or services from you.

But sometimes an email may arrive at a really inconvenient time when your subscribers have so many other pressing things going on that your email gets overlooked. (more…)

Automated email marketing systems like RocketResponder are designed to save you a lot of time and effort.

It is so easy to fire off an email, hit send and have your words of wisdom hit the inboxes of everybody on your list while you are free to concentrate on other things.
